First automotive charge controller to meet functional safety requirements according to ISO 26262 ASIL B
in-tech smart charging GmbH, a 100% subsidiary of in-tech GmbH, presents a new charging controller for the automotive industry: Charge Control L is a full-fledged automotive control unit that enables vehicle manufacturers to implement DC charging (fast charging) in their vehicles. The control unit is integrated into the vehicle via CAN interface and handles the communication with the charging station as well as the monitoring of the charging process. Charge Control L is the first product on the market that meets the functional safety requirements.
Manufacturers of commercial vehicles such as buses, trucks and other special vehicles, which usually charge with direct current, are the main target group for the charge controller. Charge Control L offers a ready-to-use solution to these customers: The control unit integrates into the vehicle via the CAN bus and handles the entire communication with the charging station as well as the monitoring of the charging process.
Additionally, the ECU can be connected to an onboard charger to enable AC charging and to extend older architectures with ISO 15118 functionalities. Charge Control L complies with the ISO15118 and DIN70121 charging standards for DC charging and IEC61851 and ISO15118 for AC charging.
From the very beginning, the in-tech developers took functional safety requirements into account: "Vehicle manufacturers must guarantee functional safety during the charging process," explains Thomas Wagner, CEO of in-tech smart charging GmbH. "Charge Control L has been developed according to the automotive standard ISO 26262 and meets the required safety standard ASIL B. For this purpose, the control unit monitors, for example, the temperature at the charging plug, the status LEDs and the plug locks," the CEO adds.
chargebyte GmbH develops hardware and software solutions for the charging communication of electric vehicles and charging infrastructure. chargebyte supplies SECC, EVCC, and communication modules to EV and EVSE manufacturers, enabling AC and DC charging based on the ISO 15118 standard as well as Powerline Communication (PLC).
